session count mismatch between active and standby

We are seeing something odd today and since it is on a 4500 and deprecated code, thought I would try here and see if anyone has run into something similar. The session count on the standby node is shooting up to about 3x what the active node shows. The standby currently shows 4800 sessions, while the active node shows 1900. I don't know what might cause this or how to resolve it. Let me know if there are any ideas.
