Getting error "Failed to retrieve identity key/certificate from keystore"

We received a new certificate keypair (private key + full chain certificate) issued within our own organization. The keypair is in the .pfx (PKCS12) format.

I am attempting to import this keypair into the weblogic/PeopleSoft keystore to no avail. Any attempt I have made thus far results in the weblogic error: "Failed to retrieve identity key/certificate from keystore." Now, Oracle's support docs insist that I have a password issue. I have double checked, triple checked, quadruple checked, and quintuple checked that the password is correct. I've used every known password I can think of in the Weblogic console: the keystore password and the .pfx container password.
