setting up AD with OL8

Long time ago when we were a Unix shop we used NIS. Then when we moved to Linux we had a consultant setup our Linux servers to make use of Active Directory. Now I am trying to get some OL8 servers setup and having an issue with authentication. I have enabled sssd and I am aware that there are config files in /etc/pam.d like system-auth and password-auth but the notes I have also refer to the same files with -ac extensions but I'm not sure where they come from as they say they are auto-generated. I have run a couple of authconfig commands although looks
