Calculate overtime rate for nondiscretionary bonuses over multiple FLSA periods
We have and will be paying nondiscretionary retention bonuses to multiple nonexempt employees. The bonuses were paid upfront but to receive the bonus employee must agree to stay with the organization for a period of 1, 2, 3, or more years. We have received guidance that the bonus amounts should be spread over the designated retention period, 1, 2, 4, or more years, and overtime be calculated on the weekly amount.
We have reviewed Oracle Support Document, PeopleSoft Payroll for North America FLSA Processing Advisor (Doc ID 1566626.1), Section 6: FLSA Over Multiple Periods. The document indicates the system will prorate a payment over multiple FLSA periods and recalculate overtime earnings for those periods. To complete the task, add a new entry to the paysheet with earnings begin and end dates for the period covered. Does this mean we complete the update one time to cover the entire retention period, or will we need to update the paysheet for each during the retention period? Any guidance would be helpful.
