Interfacing cycle count results from external system

Hi! We are not performing cycle count in Oracle, we do it in external WMS and are sending the adjustment transactions to Oracle via API. The transaction type is Cycle Count adjustment. I am wondering about the out of the box functionality in this case. Is it required for us to maintain a cycle count definition in Oracle in order to interface the transactions? And if so, is there any way to avoid this? To me it seems redundant and unnecessary having to do this, but my developer is saying an error is thrown saying 'item not in cycle count
