R12.1 - INV_MCC_TRANSACTION_FAIL error in MTL transactions interface

Through a custom program , we insert data in transactions interface and then INV manager to process it. This works okay in 12.2.9 , but throws the subject error in 12.1. What are the places to look for? I see from MOS notes that MCC related stuff was introduced in 12.2.6 and so expect this error not to be present in 12.1. Any pointers? One of my colleagues is going to log an SR , but I thought this may be another avenue for a quicker solution. Any help is appreciated.

The same data goes through from front end but fails when sent through this code.
