Is there a way to stop invalid configurations being saved?

When configuring a published model and not electing some required options, it is possible to save this invalid configuration to the sales order. A warning is presented but can be ignored.

Is there a way to prevent a user from saving the configuration and returning to the sales order while the configuration is invalid?
