Does the Period_Weeks control if we wanted to just pay 1 week instead of 2 on a certain pay?

PeopleSoft Payroll for North America. We're interested in paying only 1 week for a specific pay instead of our normal 2 weeks. We updated the pay calendar to show the pay_end_dt and Period_Weeks to be 1 instead of 2 but 80 hours were loaded. Any insights on this?
