BI Publisher QR code or PDF417 results in Error

I'm trying to use the QRCode and/or PDF417 function but I get an error, see below. I'm on Tools release 9.2.7.2 using BI Publisher version 12.2.1.4.0

UserDefinedCode_ID1 is the field that I'm trying to encode as a barcode.

Is there additional setup that is needed, neither the video nor the documentation references any additional setup.
