Node Manager Status remains Inactive after installing new custom certificate

WebCenter Content 12.2.1.4

I've installed a new security certificate, but I am getting the symptoms in this DOC Document Display (oracle.com) Node Manager Inactive in the WebLogic Console with the Error "javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException" (Doc ID 2931101.1)

I have the configurations in the nodemanager.properties file set to use the custom certificates and the keystore that the admin and managed servers are using but I still see:  <Loading identity key store: FileName=kss://system/demoidentity, Type=kss, PassPhraseUsed=true> when I start the node manager.

I am also seeing the below error in the AdminServer.log file.

Caused By: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target

Howdy, Stranger!
