What planning methods are considered in each plan type?

When we define plan we have an option to select plan type as manufacturing plan/production plan/Master plan. I would like to know which planning methods are considered in each of these plan types. I am doing my research in meta link, however if you can point me to some notes it helps me a lot. Thanks in advance.
