What is the difference of setting a schedule in Notifications rather than in Orchestrations?

I have set up a Watchlist based notification through Notifications in Orchestrator Studio. From there, I created an Orchestration and added a schedule (M-F at 9am). It was running correctly for a while, but now it is not working for some reason. I then realized that I can add the schedule straight from within Notifications. But, what is the difference??? which works better?
