Does Oracle RDBMS support OS Direct Disk Encryptions?

In addition to the topics below, what are the various elements in favor of adopting TDE and therefore Oracle Advanced Security instead of using direct disk encryption? I'd be happy to receive facts and documents on the pros and cons of direct-to-disk encryption.
- Overhead of encryption/decryption, which may penalize database performance
- Backup/Restore of the database.
- And finally, the impact on ASM and Dataguard environments.
