Custom Asset Number sequence

Hi,

We have a requirement to maintain separate numbering sequence for Asset numbers for each Asset-Book as per local laws and no manual keying of numbers is allowed. Could this be maintained in other fields like Asset Key or DFF. Please suggest the best possible approach to achieve this requirement. We have 10 corp books to maintain and are in R12.2.X
