Application Reference Number not generating when applying receipt to Transaction thru API

We are trying to apply a receipt to transaction. When we are applying the receipt to transaction manually, we can see Application Reference Number is getting generated. However, when we are trying to apply the receipt to a transaction thru API, Application Reference Number is not getting generated.


Can you please let us know what is the impact/importance of Application Reference number? How is this number generated? Is it mandatory to have Application reference number once receipt is applied to a transaction?
