is it safe to switch to use switchHome or HAS process to move from newer grid home to older version?

in Database Install/Upgrade/Opatch (MOSC) Question

for out of place patching, if we switch to a new grid home (either using roothas/runinstaller for has, or gridSetup/switch home for CRS) what is the safest/best way to move back to the old home if we run into issues and are there any limitations?

i.e, if we are on 19.18 and switch to 19.20, then realize we need to switch back, can we just reverse the process and move back to the older home or are there additional issues to be concerned with?
