About Maximum cell capacity for hard disks of AWR

I have a question regarding item Maximum cell capacity for hard disks of AWR. I think that if you exceed the Maximum cell capacity for hard disks, Disk IO will be delayed, but what actually happens if you exceed it even slightly? It's fine if you know, but if you know how it's calculated, please let me know.
