Self-hosted engine storage migration

I have DOC 2731653.1 which explains how to migrate a self-hosted engine from one storage domain to another. We have to to decommission the old array. The document hints that all VMs in the cluster have to be shutdown in order to do this. Really? Has anyone done this without shutting down VMs? This would effectively shut down our company during this maintenance period. Does anyone have the steps they used to migrate a SHE? I have found two docs, one ovirt and the other Red Hat that seem to hint that the VMs will stay up and running while
