What is the cleanest way to change the root compartment where our domain was created?

Long story short, our former lead of getting our planning and budgeting environment set up decided to use their name as the domain. This employee is no longer here and we were hoping there was a way to update this easily but it doesn't seem to be the case. If we were to create a new compartment, how could we migrate our environment over to a new domain?
