R3483 Messages

Is it possible to have demand for a certain item but create a message via R3483 for a different item? Is there a cross-reference function that would allow you to look at demand for one item and if it sees that demand, create a message for the related item setup in the XRef?

Ex: We store an item in the U.S. with a certain item number. When that item number shows demand via safety stock or SO's outstanding, can R3483 create a message for a branch plant for another item? The reason I ask is that these items are the same (technically), but they are considered different items in JDE because one is setup in KG's and the other is setup in LBs. We produce the KG item but we store it as a different item in the LBs.
