Locking down items with security

We run JDE 9.2.7.2 and I am wondering if there has been any extra security functionality at the item level? We would like to flag our items in the items master and have some kind of security set where these items cannot be touched unless that person has the correct security. We would like to possibly populate a cat code in the IM and set security so that item can't be changed in apps like BOMs. LIRs, etc… Setting an item up in every app seems like it would take a long time and be tedious.
