Dataguard Permanent Role Change

Hello,

I have a Data Guard (DG) environment we are planning where we will initially have the Primary (PRI) in Melbourne and the Standby (SB) in Atlanta.

While I am very familiar with DG my management want the ability to functionally-permanently make the SB become the PRI. Perhaps for months at a time (and correspondingly make the PRI primary the SB for the same time span).

Note: Using Oracle Cloud is not an option nor is RAC.

I always understood DG as a disaster recovery solution where you switch or failback over in a relatively short time after the DR event is over.
