Task Based UI (TBUI) - Pick applet doesn't work on Task Applet (built on TBC)

Question: I have existing Task Applet built on Transient BC. I need to add new field with a pick applet, where user would pick from existing Assets.

I added a new picklist, mapped pick map a and associated pick applet for newly added control. However when I click on the icon I'm getting an error saying: This operation is not allowed when there are no records displayed. Please execute a query that returns at least one record or add a new record.(SBL-DAT-00215)

Is it possible use pickapplet on Task Applets? Could you pls. give me some hints what can be wrong?
