Form Extension with Associated Orchestration - Invoking Error

We need to validate data entry on a application form, stopping the saving of the record if the data is invalid.

I created an orchestration containing a logic extension that invokes an error when data value passed in is invalid. I associated this orchestration in a form extension on the OK button click event. A form error does successfully come up but but the save action continues.

The orchestration is set to Abort.

Is there a way to "stop" the existing event rule action if the orchestration has a JDE status of Error?
