hidden RMAN file

Some RMAN session left a hidden file as the product of an old RMAN session. I have no log file of this session, and my question is : why would RMAN leave a file hidden on the system ? Is it an aborted RMAN session ? I can't see anybody manually setting this, although technically possible.
