EPM 11.2.18 Calc Mgr rules with Java not working after upgrade

Today I upgraded to 11.2.18. We have a number of Calc Manager rules, called from Planning, that use Java to run batch files on the server. The batch files call maxl and calc scripts. They return in a second, which is much too fast, say completed, and I cannot find an error message in any Calc Manager log that I have looked at.

Do you know if something changed in Java or maxl that would break these scripts? And how someone who does not know much about Java could fix it?
