AWE Emails: Can Approvers opt out of specific event emails?

We are using the Approval Workflow Engine to process our requisition approvals. Our requisitions route through 3 steps for approval (Step A, Step B, Step C).

The delivered events "Route for Approval" and "Request Information Added" trigger email notifications to Approvers. The Approvers in Steps B and C would like to opt out of receiving the emails triggered by the event "Route for Approval," but continue to receive emails triggered by the event "Request Information Added."

Is it possible to exclude approvers within a specific User List or Approval Step from receiving emails triggered by a specific event? There is an older discussion thread with a similar scenario, but doesn't seem like it was ever resolved: "
