Possible to test OPatch install on linux?

I'm trying to update OPatch on Linux 7.9 to version 13.9.4.2.14 but I am running into an issue where the installer will run but produces the following error:
"This installer must be executed using a Java Development Kit (JDK)
but /usr/apps/Oracle/Middleware/jdk" is not a valid JDK Java Home. "

Is there a way to test run the installer to confirm the changes I made has fixed the issue without having to bring down the entire application.
