Developing Reports for Oracle Analytics Publisher

Is there any other reliable way to develop templates/reports for Oracle Analytics Publisher besides the template builder for Microsoft Word? The software is so old that we're unable to get it working on any of our systems, whether we're using Office 365 or not. XML is technically an option, I suppose.. but that takes a lot of knowledge and learning to accomplish, not to mention being impractical from a testing standpoint. Is there any other option that works reliably?
