Position with multiple jobs

I have a position named Teacher I/II/III/IV and would like to link the position to the jobs TEA-1, TEA-2, TEA-3, TEA-4. So, if I am going to promote a teacher form teacher 1 to teacher 2, should I create different positions ID or I can just go and update the position id E46F002R and change the job from TEA-1 to TEA-2? Would this affect the position activity?
