Can legal entity be closed with 0-amount open transactions

One org has unpaid invoices and credit memo, and the amount of invoices and the amount of credit memo can offset each other so the total amount is 0. The invoices and credit memo status are Validated. If we don't run PPR to generate 0 payment, and change the status to Paid, can we close the legal entity, which the open invoices and credit memo belong to?
