Freight Rate Schedule - Advance Preference

I would like to automate the Rate schedule based on Advance preference.
The routes are already configured with a generic rate schedule. I would like the system to override for some special cases. I tried to use Freight rate schedule and its not working.

Do we have any documents or KC for the same?
