Dependent Supplier Type Flexfield SSHR

Our users want to create a flexfield at the Supplier level, which shouldn't be a problem.

After talking with them further, they would like it to be an LOV, with the values in it to be dependent on what is selected for Supplier Type (i.e. the Type field on the Suppliers self-service page). so if type A is selected, the new flexfield only shows A's subcategories, etc.

Is this even possible and if so where do i even go from here to create? We are on R12.1.3.
