ePerformance. Clone functionality and creating documents through batch processes.

In ePerformance, we deactivated templates used in prior years that had checkpoints and replaced it with a template that has no checkpoints. Some end users used the clone feature this year on deactivated templates instead of creating a new template. With these cloned templates the checkpoints that we wanted to eliminate are still there. We don't want to eliminate the clone feature. Is there a way we can use the clone feature only on activated templates?

Alternatively, we thought we could deactivate the cloning functionality and create performance documents for everyone through a batch process. Is this possible without customization? If there is a batch process, can we create documents with prior criteria? So in essence, we are "cloning" last year's document into a different template.
