too slow Performance in connect via Servlet WAN Network

After migrating from Oracle Developer Forms 6i to Oracle Forms 14c in Oracle Fusion Middleware 14c, the connection now uses a web servlet. However, the system performs very slowly over an extranet WAN connection, while it works fine on the intranet LAN. This seems like a bottleneck or deadlock issue. What could be causing this performance degradation, and how can it be resolved?
