Is it possible to use the Campus Solutions Shopping Cart Framework with external systems?

All of the shopping cart service operations seem to be designed to be used from within Campus Solutions. Is it possible to modify the service operations for use with an external system? Would changing the "Req Verification" from Basic Authentication to something else be the main task, or would a lot of customization to handlers etc. be required?
