We want to show middle initial in the Company Directory and still display full middle name elsewhere

We are implementing company directory in PeopleSoft and upper management would like for only the middle initial to be shown not the full middle name in the directory. This is only for Company Directory elsewhere in PeopleSoft we want the full middle name to show. We don't want to do customizations we would like to drive this through configuration.

Has anyone else encountered this type of request? If so, can you share what your steps were to accomplish this?
