Out of Place EPM System 11.2.15 Upgrade to EPM System 11.2.20

Hi I am preparing to do an out-of-place upgrade from EMP system 11.2.15 to EPM system 11.2.20. What is the best practice for the upgrade to EPM system 11.2.20? My options are:

Install EPM system 11.2.15 on the new environment servers. Then migrate all existing 11.2.15 artifacts to the new out of place EPM system 11.2.15 and test the new deployment. After testing the new deployment of EPM system 11.2.15 apply the EPM system 11.2.20 patch sets and test the upgraded deployment.

or

Install EPM system 11.2.15 on the new environment servers and apply the EPM system 11.2.20 patch set. Migrate all existing 11.2.15 artifacts to the new out of place EPM system 11.2.20 and test the new deployment.
