Operation Methodology for “Original” and “Test” Generations of a 2-Node RAC 12.2 on OLVM 4.5.5

1. Background & Configuration

  • Virtualization platform: Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager 4.5.5-1.42.el8
  • Guest OS: Oracle Linux 7.9 (UEK) × 2 VMs
  • RAC version: 12.2.0.1
  • Disk layout
    • Each VM has its own system disk (qcow2)
    • A single 200 GiB ASM shareable (multi-attach) disk, subdivided for +DATA, +FRA, +MGMT, etc., is attached to both VMs

2. Objectives

  • “Original” generation
After a clean shutdown of RAC/ASM/DB, capture and retain a full set of snapshots that can be rolled back at any time.
  • “Test” generation
Create a fully isolated clone environment from the original so that the OS and database can be modified freely without affecting the original.

3. Questions

  1. Consistent snapshot of multi-attach disks

Howdy, Stranger!
