How to Identify the type of location?

PeopleSoft 9.2.50, PeopleTools 8.60.17

How do organizations identify their locations/ship to's concerning the type of location? I see on the LOCATION_TBL there's a field for OFFICE_TYPE, but it's not on the page to populate and it's only 1 character.

We have a requirement to identify the kind of location or ship to- in most of the cases they are not Inventory Business Units. For those, we easily use the Inventory BU Group.

When I say the type of location, for example, Corporate, Fleet, IT, Service Center, etc. locations that wouldn't have inventory.

Does anyone else have a similar requirement that they have addressed?
