Item number change of a serial number

Hello all,

Running EBS 12.2.8. We have a scenario that has arisen. We have an item that is serial controlled and was originally built using a discrete job and shipped out on a sales order to the customer. This item has been returned to us from the customer, and we no longer manufacture that item number. We need a way to "upgrade" this serial number to the new item number. We don't have depot repair or field service modules installed. Does Oracle offer an native functionality to turn this serial number into a new item number? I recognize we can do it
