SPARC Solaris 11.4 BE boot fails with "symbol not found: vn_walk_dir" after SRU update

Hi all,

I have a SPARC S7-2L system running Solaris 11.4 (11.4.35.94.4). After applying the latest SRU 84 (11.4.84.0.1.201.1) update and creating a new boot environment, I cannot boot into the new BE. The system panics early as seen in the ILOM console with:

/kernel/fs/sparcv9/dev: Shdr[13].rela.text: relocation[1575] error: R_SPARC_WDISP30: symbol not found: vn_walk_dir WARNING: unable to load module: dev: Invalid argument panic[cpu0]/thread=...: Cannot _init dev module

I have tried the following :

  • sudo pkg -R /mnt/be list -v entire shows: FMRI IFO pkg://solaris/entire@11.4-11.4.84.0.1.201.1:20250804T231206Z i--
  • sudo pkg verify -R /mnt
