Bonus Deferral Deductions Exceeding Accumulator Limits When Both 401(k) and 457 Are Selected

Good afternoon, Oracle Community,

We’ve encountered an issue related to bonus deferral deductions and are hoping for some insight.

Our organization allows employees to defer bonus payments into either a 457 plan, a 401(k), or both. Here’s the scenario we’re seeing:

  • Bonus deferral deductions (Bonus 401 and Bonus 457) are tied to a special accumulator labeled BON.
  • Regular earnings deductions are tied to a separate accumulator labeled 401/457.

Example:

  • Bonus earnings: $3,000 (Accumulator: BON)
  • Regular earnings: $6,000 (Accumulator: 401/457)
  • Employee elects:
    • Bonus 457 at 100%
    • Bonus 401 at a flat $3,000

When payroll is calculated, both Bonus 457 and Bonus 401 deductions independently pull from the BON accumulator, resulting in

Howdy, Stranger!
