Critcal patches updates

Hello all,

We are in the process of applying critical patch updates to all 110 instances of EBS. The application of the forms server, middle tier and Weblogic are a breeze, the issue comes up when we have to apply databases patches. We only have two DBA's to accomplish his task.

Can I apply the middle tier/app patches more frequently and apply database twice a year or do they have to be applied at the same time?

Recommended and real world are different just trying to find a away to stay more current.
