What causes error RMAN-06023?

I'm doing a regular restoration activity on my production databases. This is a yearly event to ensure backup copies are able to be restored.

I notice from time to time, during the restoration progress I will hit with RMAN-06023 errors. I fully know how to resolve this error, as it's related to DB incarnation key is different between the production and backups. I just reset the test DB's incarnation to be identical to the production DB.

RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restore
