E1 30 What is the best practice regarding an item which will change from purchased to manufactured

Hi someone can help

I just want to know what is the recommendation and/or best practice regarding an scenario where an item which currently is set up as purchased part will change as manufactured by the company.

We are assesin two options:

  1. Continue using same JDE item number, converting it to a manufactured part making all corresponding set ups.
  2. Obsolete current part number, but creating a item number as manufacured from the scratch.
