We are looking to upgrade from R23 to R26 applications. Do we need parallel server paths (DV/PY/PD)

We are on tools release 9.2.26.1. When we performed our last two tools only updates we put the ESU in DV/PY, tested, and moved to PD. We are now working on an ASU to move from R23 to R26 application update plus tools. We are being told we need to set up a series of parallel servers to house the upgraded DV/PY/PD environments. We would keep our current R23 DV/PY/PD setup for daily work and perform all upgrades and testing on the new servers then copy data base from current PD to new PD for cutover. This parallel server process
