Succession Planning Setup-Performance Reviews Required?

Hi there! We're PS HCM 9.2, PUM 51, on prem.

We're looking in to setting up succession planning in PS, but we don't use the full functionality of the performance review process. We use a separate system for that, however I upload start/end date of review period and the rating so that it displays on the Review Job History page (Menu>Workforce Development>Employee Review History).

Is this enough information for the performance review-related setup of Succession Planning? The Succession Planning Setup Page needs a document type, as well as a ratings model. We have the ratings model defined. I'm not sure about the Document Type, which is what leads me to my question. We don't store the actual performance review docs in PS; just ratings.
