Supressing Sales Order Demand

We have some scrap orders which we ship from a Non-Nettable sub-inventory. Even while we populate the Non-nettable subinv on the sales order line , it is still considered as Visible Demand by the sales order. I remember from a answer in a SR that this is standard functionality.

The question is how do I supress the demand? What makes a sales order visible as Demand. Is it the VISIBLE_DEMAND_FLAG only or the SCHEDULE_SHIP_DATE being populated or both?
