What are the authentication methods for OIC to ATP Database connectivity?

We are currently using OIC Database Adapter with JDBC over SSL, Autonomous Database Wallet, and a database service account/password. What is Oracle's currently recommended and most secure authentication method for OIC-to-Autonomous Database connectivity that minimizes or eliminates static credentials, and what are the migration steps to implement it?
